Q. Who is simply08numbers.co.uk?
A. We are part of a North London based multimedia business called Cameron Hardy Limited. They are a UK limited company (No. 4965762) and UK VAT registered (No. 822 4421 18). The group also includes web site design, web site hosting, email services, online & offline business promotion and specialst professional photography services.
Q. How do these numbers work?
A. You pick a number that you like the look of, say 0845 100 2999, and we enter into the database of our telecoms carrier how any calls to that number are to be handled. This entails you providing a UK landline number which will receive the call made to the 0845 number.
Q. Why would I want one of these numbers?
A. Various reasons. You want to give a national feel to your business, you want to generate an income from calls you receive, you want customers to call you for free to increase call traffic, you want to mask the location of your business or you are a home worker using your domestic line but want to keep that number secret.
Q. How long does it take for numbers to become active?
A. This normally takes from 48-72 hours. We can access numbers in some circumstances for same day activation.
Q. Who is your carrier?
A. Our numbers are provided and operated by international telco Cable & Wireless.
Q. Can anyone buy an 08 number?
A. Yes for 084 and 087 numbers but we would normally only sell an 0800 or 0808 number to a registered UK company or partnership. This is because we have to extend a month's worth of call credit to the user and need to be confident that we are going to be paid at the end of the month.
Q. Can I change the destination of my 08xx number?
A. Yes. There is no fee and you can change as many times as you wish.
Q. Will anyone see my underlying number?
A. Not unless you call them back on that line without hiding your caller display. This makes especially 0845 numbers great for home workers as customers or enquirers can call through to your home number without you having to give out your home number directly.
Q. Can the 08 number route to a VoIP number from, say, Tescos?
A. Yes as long as the number begins with 01 or 02.
Q. Is the number to which the call re-routes visible to the caller?
A. No, unless you ring them back from that line in which case, caller ID will be sent. To keep all numbers hidden you will have to withhold when calling back.
Q. Can calls be re-routed to an 0560 number?
A. No, VOIP numbers of this type cannot be used. However, a VOIP number beginning 01 or 02 can be used.
Q.Do I get an itemised bill?
A. Yes listing time, duration, cost and if applicable outpayment for each and every call made in the month.
Q. How much will I pay to receive calls on an 08xx number?
A. Nothing on an 0844 or 0845 number. Nothing for 0870 or 0871 numbers. For 0800 and 0808 numbers you will have to pay 3.5p per minute all day, every day for all incoming calls.
Q. What are the monthly costs or line rentals?
A. This depends on whether the number is Bronze, Silver or Gold. Bronze numbers cost £2.99 per month, except 087 Bronze numbers which are free. All other numbers have a line rental equal to the initial purchase cost of the number, which is in the range £30 to £90.
Q. What do I get for the monthly cost or line rental?
A. You get free itemised billing, email support/service at weekend & evenings, weekday telephone support and unlimited changes to the terminating number for your calls.
Q. How much will I earn on an 08xx number?
A. Nothing on an 0845 number. 0870 numbers earn 1.5p per minute for peak rate only (8am - 6pm Monday to Friday). 0871 numbers pay you 3.25p per minute all day. 0844 numbers pay out 0.3p per minute all day. You will earn nothing from 0800 and 0808 numbers.
Q. Will you credit check me?
A. If you want to terminate the calls overseas or to a mobile, almost certainly yes. For 0800 or 0808 numbers we will certainly make some investigation into a business's standing.
Q. How will I get paid?
A. Payments from 0870, 0871 and 0844 numbers will be made monthly, around the last day of the month. Payments can be either by paper cheque or BACS payment.
Q. Can my 08xx be terminated to an overseas number?
A. Not usually but we are happy to discuss the options with you. We would only consider offering this for UK registered companies or partnerships with a trading history we can verify.
Q. Can my mobile be set up to receive 08xx?
A. Yes, but you will need to call us to discuss this. Due to the high levels of fraud and the high routing costs involved we will need to credit check you and may also need to take a deposit. Q. Can I choose the local number part of a local-area number?
A. No, these are assigned sequentially and you cannot choose. Once the number has been assigned it cannot be changed.
Q. Can I change my local-area number?
A. No, to change the number you will have to buy a new one.
Q. Can I choose my 08xx number?

Q. Can I choose a more memorable number?
A. Yes, but we feel that even our Bronze numbers are pretty good. Set up charges cost between £30 and £90, although they can be more. Pricing is similar to personalised number plates - i.e. the more interesting the number, the more it costs. We class our silver numbers are more memorable and gold as very memorable, but some of the bronze numbers also stick in the mind very well.
